Nigerians have a saying: "It was a hit back to back," and that perfectly describes my experience in the bootcamp—from the very first interaction to the last day. It truly was a success every step of the way.

 

When I signed up, I received a call from the facilitator, Ayo, who took the time to understand my goals, expectations, and current career situation. This personal touch stood out to me because I was about to join a diverse class, and he wanted to ensure that my unique needs were met. He aligned the course content with my goals, setting the stage for what would become an incredibly tailored and impactful learning experience. He didn't stop there, throughout the bootcamp, he reached out personally to reconfirm alignment and review expectations.

 

On the first day of the bootcamp, we had an introductory session where Ayo recommended two books that have been instrumental to my success both during the bootcamp, my personal life and my career. These books, coupled with the rigorous assignments and collaborative learning environment, set me up for success right from the start.

 

My goals for the boot camp were clear: I wanted to master the basics of project management, gain hands-on experience, learn to create project artifacts, and become proficient with project management tools. I also wanted to confidently facilitate Scrum events. I'm pleased to say that all of these goals were not only met but exceeded during the intensive course. The environment was incredibly collaborative, with fantastic individuals from various backgrounds, all eager to learn. The quality of questions and discussions in class constantly challenged my thinking and broadened my understanding. During classes, Ayo always went beyond the scope of what he intended to teach by explaining additional concepts, sharing likely interview questions, and guiding us on the best ways to respond. Every class was a revelation of some sort.

 

I joined the camp as an experienced project manager, so I had tested the waters, but I knew I needed more knowledge to better equip me for my next phase/new job. I was looking to upskill and re-enter the workforce. I didn't just want to upskill as a project manager but also as a business analyst and a product owner. I imagine you might think that’s too much. Lol. I was that thirsty for knowledge because I was on a mission to stand out!

 

The bootcamp didn’t fall short in helping me achieve any of these desires. For instance, after our session on Scrum, I was so well-prepared that I went on to write and pass my Professional Scrum Master (PSM) certification—a goal I hadn't initially set for myself but was able to achieve thanks to the knowledge gained in the bootcamp.

 

Ayo was generous enough to review and revamp my resume. When he was done, my resume made me feel like a Project Director—and that’s exactly who I’ve become. His guidance didn't stop at the resume. Ayo made himself available for coaching and extra guidance, particularly when it came to preparing for job interviews. This level of support was beyond my expectations and truly exceptional.

 

Before the boot camp ended, I landed a wonderful role as a Project Manager in a renowned company with a sweet salary. Before starting my new role, Ayo guided me on how to accelerate my learning, secure early wins, and build alliances with subject matter experts. Together, we worked through my onboarding plan, which significantly positioned me for success even before I officially began. This preparation ensured that I could hit the ground running, build credibility quickly, and achieve significant wins early on.

 

Even though the bootcamp has ended, I continue to reap the benefits of the investment I made. Ayo has become not just a coach but a mentor, deeply dedicated and invested in my success. I left the bootcamp with a clear understanding of what I need to do next to further position myself properly to land my Project Director role soon enough.

 

I can confidently say that everyone needs an Ayo in their lives! As a Project Manager now, I am confident in my ability to handle any project, regardless of its complexities, uncertainties, risks, or stakeholders. My interaction with Ayo and the bootcamp has had a profound impact on my ability to lead projects.
